About

            I was born in 1946, in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Birmingham which is a suburb of Detroit. My father was an advertising executive and his offices were in Detroit. My family was scattered all over the state of Michigan. My maternal grandmother lived in Manistee which is located on Lake Michigan near the tip of the little finger. (Michiganders are lucky because we can use our hand as a map!) I also have cousins in Port Huron, Clarkston, Grand Rapids and Saginaw. Michigan is one of the most beautiful states in America. Water, water everywhere! Michigan is home to some of the best fishing and water sports in the world. The lighthouse pictured on this page is located at the mouth of the Manistee River, Manistee, Michigan. The state’s history is long and varied, from her beginnings with the coming of the French fur trappers, to her distinctive maritime history, and of course, we can’t forget hockey, Motown or our American Pennant winning Tigers! Michigan is a state that has so much to offer. Come and take a look!
            Because my father had business in Jamaica I spent part of my childhood traveling between Birmingham and Ocho Rios, Jamaica. We made our first trip to the island in 1958 and our last, as a family, in 1966 just three months before my father found out that he had cancer. When we first came to the island it was an unknown piece of paradise. The tourists had not found the island yet and there were no huge ships anchored off shore to block the view of the fabulous sunsets. I grew up with stories about the pirates of Port Royal, and chief among them, Morgan. The stories about Anancy the trickster spider-man, were repeated over and over, much to our delight. We heard tales of Christopher Columbus’ arrival on the island, the great slave uprising, and of course there was….Carnival! You have not lived until you have experienced Carnival in Jamaica!
            I grew up and graduated from college with degrees in history. I began my search for a job and a career. I loved museums and archaeology, but I was quite amazed to find that one could actually earn money at such a profession! How delighted I was! I worked my way up through the ranks of the museum world until I obtained a job as director and resident archaeologist for one of the museums near Baltimore. I was in heaven! I spent twenty-five years in the museum and archaeology professions and I had a great time until I retired in 2000.
            As for the world of the web, I am self-taught as most of us are. I have never taken a course in web design. I just go where my instinct takes me. For many years the crafts of cooking, sewing, knitting, and quilting were very much apart of my work world as well as personal hobbies. The skills I developed in home decorating came to me because of a need to decorate on a budget, but I fell in love with the idea of taking something old, dusty and dull and making it wonderful again.
            I am having so much fun making this site for you. I hope that you will come to be apart of all that is Craft Village.

            So, OK, I grew up in Motown and I LOVE the Motown Sound! I also grew up in Jamaica and I LOVE all things Bob Marley!             Amazon.Com has been a favorite of mine for a very long time.
